A friend of mine opened his wife's underwear drawer and picked up a silk paper- wrapped package:

'This, - he said - isn't any ordinary package.'

He unwrapped the box and stared at both the silk paper and the box.

'She got this the first time we went to New York , 8 or 9 years ago. She has never put it on , was saving it for a special occasion.

Well, I guess this is it.

He got near the bed and placed the gift box next to the other clothing he was taking to the funeral house, his wife had just died.

He turned to me and said:

I still think those words changed my life.

Now I read more and clean less.

I sit on the porch without worrying about anything.

I spend more time with my family, and less at work.

I understood that life should be a source of experience to be lived up to, not survived through.

I no longer keep anything.

I use crystal glasses every day...

I'll wear new clothes to go to the supermarket, if I feel like it..

I don't save my special perfume for special occasions, I use it whenever I want to.

The words 'Someday....' and ' One Day...' are fading away from my dictionary.

If it's worth seeing, listening or doing, I want to see, listen or do it now....

I don't know what my friend's wife would have done if she knew she wouldn't be there the next morning, this nobody can tell..

I think she might have called her relatives and closest friends.

She might call old friends to make peace over past quarrels.

I'd like to think she would go out for Chinese, her favorite food.

It's these small things that I would regret not doing, if I knew my time had come..

Each day, each hour, each minute, is special.

Live for today, for tomorrow is promised to no-one.

There are probably some Moms and Dads who remember these times!   And out of frustration and struggle, they might have said  to their children, "Quit your whining!"  

Extremely hard times!! Could those age 50 and younger in today's world be able to do this and survive?? 1935  to 1939  Pictures of the  United States AFTER YOU LOOK AT THE PICTURES READ THE NOTE AT THE VERY BOTTOM! WE ALL NEED A REMINDER. AND WE THINK WE'VE GOT IT BAD!!! Please pass this on to remind others what it was like.... only 74 years ago.... Makes complaining about no cell service, high gasoline prices, not enough cable channels, seem a bit ludicrous. And no credit cards to buy what you want, but don't need! If you don't know what the Great Depression was all about, here is the motto: "Use it up -- wear it out,  make it do  or  do without!!" This reminds me to always be truly grateful for what I do have. Start each day with a smile and a prayer.

Forgiveness

The first step in forgiveness is the willingness to forgive. ''Attack is an easier response than forgiveness, and that is why we are so tempted to give into it.  Throughout our lives we have seen more anger than examples of true forgiveness.  Forgiveness does not mean that we suppress anger; forgiveness means that we have asked for a miracle:  the ability to see through mistakes that someone has made to the truth that lies in all of our hearts. . . . Forgiveness is not always easy.  At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness.  Attack thoughts towards others are attack thoughts towards ourselves.  The first step in forgiveness is the willingness to forgive.'' I believe that the most important thing to consider when thinking about forgiveness is the effect that it has on ourselves.  Forgiveness isn't always about the person being forgiven; often, that person will have asked forgiveness and will be very grateful when we do forgive, but probably more often we need to forgive for our own sake or good.  I've carried around anger and resentment for a while. It can become a habit.  But the thing that always took it away was the realization--usually later rather than sooner--that my anger wasn't affecting the object of my anger at all, but it was affecting me a great deal, in a very negative way.  I wasn't sleeping as I could have been, I wasn't able to focus on the task at hand as well as I could have, I wasn't able to relate to other people effectively. I was allowing the one who hurt me to have control of my actions. I have chosen recognize God as the one in control of this world and my life. I don't have time for resentment.

I have to admit, I still get angry and I don't always forgive as I should, but I try--I don't want that negative baggage to carry around with me. I feel God working in my life and the improvements He is making. I want my view of the world to be a view filled with wonder and awe, and carrying a grudge taints that view; I'm the one who suffers from my own inability to forgive--just as I'm the only one who can choose to allow God to save me from that suffering by putting things behind me where they belong.

Blame vs Responsibilty

Give up blaming everyone else. Either you own your situation or it will own you.  Either you take responsibility for your life, or someone else will.  Blame is a scapegoat – it’s an easy way out of taking accountability for your own outcome.  It’s a lot easier to point the finger at someone or something else instead of looking within. Blame is not constructive; it does not help you or anyone else – nobody wins in the blame game.  The amount of energy and stress it takes to place blame elsewhere takes away from your ability to move forward and find a real solution.

And remember, the road you are traveling may be the more challenging one, but don’t lose faith.  Don’t listen to the doubters, don’t let setbacks keep you down, and most of all, don’t give up on yourself.

Keep faith in God -- Trust Him. It’s okay if you don’t know how much more you can handle.  It’s fine if you don’t know exactly what to do next.  Eventually you’ll let go of how things ‘should be’ and start to see all the great possibilities God has in front of you.  This is your life – grab the wheel with both hands and keep steering yourself in the right direction.

Care less about who you are to others

Don’t lose YOU or your identity in your search for acceptance by others.  Be aware that you will always appear to be a little less than some people prefer you to be, but that most people are unaware that you are so much more then what they see.  God says, "In Christ" He makes you good enough just the way you are.  You have nothing to prove to anyone else.  Care less about who you are to others and more about who you are to God and yourself. He will guide and direct you to be who you were made to be.

Old Paths

I wish the old paths were before us instead of behind us. THE OLD PATHS I liked the old paths, when Moms were at home. Dads were at work. Brothers went into the army. And sisters got married BEFORE having children! Crime did not pay; Hard work did; And people knew the difference. Moms could cook; Dads would work; Children would behave. Husbands were loving; Wives were supportive; And children were polite. Women wore the jewelry; And Men wore the pants. Women looked like ladies; Men looked like gentlemen; And children looked decent. People loved the truth, And hated a lie. They came to church to get IN, Not to get OUT! Hymns sounded Godly; Sermons sounded helpful; Rejoicing sounded normal; And crying sounded sincere. Cursing was wicked; Drugs were for illness. The flag was honored;  America was beautiful; And God was welcome! We read the Bible in public; Prayed in school; And preached from house to house. To be called an American was worth dying for; To be called an American was worth living for; To be called a traitor was a shame! I still like the old paths the best!
